Who is Allah, the only God, our Lord, and the Creator?

Who is Allah, the only God, our Lord, and the Creator?

Who is Allah? The only God? Our Lord and the one who created us? How do we know him and how should we know him? Allah is already explaining and describing himself through his books and scriptures he revealed through his messengers. So let us look at them to see the answers.

Who is Allah, the only God, our Lord, and the Creator?

When you think and ask yourself “Who is Allah, the God?” you can think of his appearance. But what is important is not that. We know Allah by his names. In Islam, Allah has 99 names. Like Most Merciful,  Most Compassionate. With these two names all chapters (surah) start in Quran, Allah’s message to all humankind.

With this book, and with messages it carries, Allah tells us who he is. Like the first verse (ayah) of the Quran and all chapters.

While I was reading Quran, I paid attention to how Allah describes Himself to us in his book. Some of the topics in the Quran end up with Allah telling us who is like: “...Do you not know that Allah is Most Capable of everything?” (The Cow - Al Baqarah, 106)

Many verses in Quran end this way. So let's see how Allah introduces Himself to us in Quran. This is how Allah answers the question “Who is Allah, the only God, our Lord and the Creator?” in Quran, many times:

God is Most Capable,  All-Seeing,  Most Merciful,  All-Forgiving,  Almighty, All-Wise...

Who is Allah, the only God, our Lord, and the Creator?
Allah's 99 names

Some names of Allah keep repeatşng at the end of some verses. There is also a big meaning in this. Because we constantly need a reminder. And we tend to forget. That's why these repetitions keep reminding us who Allah is and how we should know him.  Here are some of them:

  • Allah is Most Capable of everything.
  • Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.
  • The Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful.
  • Allah is never unaware of what you ˹all˺ do.
  • The Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
  • Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
  • Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
  • Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.
  • Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Forbearing.
  • Allah is Gracious to all.
  • Allah is All-Bountiful, All-Knowing.

These are only some examples from Quran. While I was writing this I only read one part of it and gathered some quotes. So if you are looking for more answers I advise you to read Quran and look for more answers. Allah is Almighty, All-Wise. Hope he will open up his book for you and me more, and let us understand him more.
